« The Cairn », a platform for scientific exchange

In order to fulfil the objective of promoting earth sciences, the ‘Alpine House' Foundation will realise the ‘Le Cairn' project. This project involves a platform for scientific exchange and popularization of scientific research, to be located at Evolène in Valais.·

The project includes: The creation of a Centre for glaciology and geology (the ‘Le Cairn' building), a building that will exemplify an innovative architectural concept; the site will host a permanent exhibition about the alpine environment as well as a centre for training and documentation   The renovation of the Maison de Ribaupierre, a historical building that will be at the centre of the activities at ‘Le Cairn' (conferences – seminars); the Maison de Ribaupierre will also provide accommodation for students and doctoral candidates from Switzerland and other countries.

The‘Le Cairn' project was conceived by Professors Mike Clark of the University of Southampton (UK) and Steve Ayrton of the University of Lausanne, in collaboration with Francis Anzévui, Pierre-Henri Pralong, Pierre Kunz, Amédée Zryd, Charly Wuilloud and Albert Bezinge. The launch of the project is also connected to the development of the Les Haudères Centre for Geology.
